I can't believe I finally finished. I have visited the Good Reads blog which I think is a great idea. The Gail Borden RSS I subscribed to was for the Cookbooks which is interesting.

After a lot of thinking, I finally came up with a question for the Ask A Librarian which was: Could you recommend a good book for a 4 year old? She gave me quite a few titles and I liked the fact the Gail Borden Catalog came up for me to look at.

With Flicker I looked at our Great Sandwich which was name for the Gail Borden Library at In the Neighborhood Deli. The other day a friend and I were going to go there for lunch, but the place was so packed we had to go somewhere else. We are planning on trying again.

As for the Gail Borden YOUTUBE, I decided to watch my mentor, Melissa tell me about the book 101 people you won't meet in Heaven.

Doing the Gail Borden Learns has been an interesting experience. Some of the 10 things were harder than I thought. As a library, I think we have to give the customers what they want and it seems to be convenience. They want us to be available at all times and I think using a lot of the Web 2.0 items will help us able to give them what they want.

For example if I'm at home and have a question I could go on line and use ask a librarian.

I think now the only problem we might have is getting the information on how to use these different types of media out to the public. Because I for one didn't know about a few of these sites.

Socail Media Networking

Good Reads to me was the easiest website to use. They made it so easy to add books to my list. I like the idea of being able to create a list of books I would like to read. I ususally can never remember the titles, so this would be great. http://www.goodreads.com/

As a library we could use this as a listing for the reference desk. Customers and Staff could add to the list.

Wiki's

To make sure I really understood wiki's I decided to visit all three of the wiki's listed. The experience was interesting, it took me a while to figure out how to edit but I did finally get there with a little help from Eva.

The problems I can see with them is that anyone can edit a page. How do we know the info is totally correct?

As for the library using a wiki, I can see it being used like the Tapestry of Freedom is. Asking people for their experiences and suggestions.

Vodcasting

This would be a great way of getting more people to see our library, you could do a video tour, while giving them the information that they need for being able to use the library.

I watched A Pirates Guide to the UCLA Libraries. It was a cute way to show where the libraries were on campus and the hours of operation.

Podcasting

First, this assignment was the hardest that I came across so far. I tried to figure out how to listen to a program from Uncontrolled Vocabulary, no luck with that site at all. I was able to listen to episode # 44 from the LISTen site. It was regarding the censorship in Australia. I had a few problems first it's hard for me to be able to listen due to the fact I was interrupted. I also couldn't turn the volume up in order to hear without disrupting the office.
On the upside this could be a valueable way for people to listen to the news, that they are interested in at anytime. It is very similar to the radio except if you missed it you could always replay it.

Gail Borden could use this type of technology to let the public listen in on programs that we have, like Space.

Social Bookmarking

This type of site would be convenient, having all the bookmarks available anywhere. As for the library this could benefit all the librarians, being able to bookmark articles or websites that they have found useful. The public could also use the bookmarks that the library has put on del.icio.us.

Social Networking

I set up a Face book account with no trouble. I can see where it could be helpful in passing on information for friends and family. I'm not sure how Face book would work with the library. I did check out Linked In and think that networking system would be a more useful network for information regarding what other libraries are doing. I'm not sure about the library customers using it to contact the library. I think that IM'ing would be a better source.
